Montego Airport Bus

Public buses in Jamaica aren’t the most recommended transportation option for foreigners, even they are the cheapest way of transport.

In case you decide to pick up a bus, please bear in mind that probably you will need to make an additional transfer to other bus route. In that sense, transfer times are usually higher than expected.

Please take into account that public municipal buses are yellow and only stop at official stops.

Municipal Buses

Montego Bay Metro, which stands for the municipal bus system, operates three routes:

- Greenwood to City Centre
- Sandy Bay to City Centre
- Cambridge to City Centre

Those, and the whole majority of bus services, operate from Montego Bay Transportation Centre.

Please note that any of these routes serve Montego Bay Airport.

Fares 

About fares, see below the fixed ones by Montego Bay Metro:

- Regular: J$ 1.00
- Student: J$ 0.75
- Senior: J$ 0.50
- Disabled: J$ 0.50

Only payment by cash accepted.

Knutsford Express

On the other hand, Knutsford Express is another company which offers bus routes to several destinations in Jamaica. Buses are comfortable, spacious and have AC.

From Montego Bay you can find the following routes:

- Montego Bay – Kingston: J$ 2,950 (4h)
- Montego Bay – Ocho Rios: J$ 2,150 (1h30)
- Montego Bay – Negril: J$ 1,900 (1h50)

Departures are done at Montego Bay Transportation Centre.

Minibuses

In Jamaica, Minibuses serve the entire island. They are also called coasters.

They are easy to identify given the red license plates with the initial PPV, public passenger vehicle, or JUTA insignia, which means Jamaica Union of Travelers Association, and can be only used by tourists. 

About schedules, buses only depart once they are full, that means they tend to be overcrowded.
